5500 Series Casement Specifications

 

SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL PROVISIONS: All casement (in-swing) windows with exterior operable louvers as shown in architectural drawings shall meet or exceed the latest AAMA requirements for HC65.

Architect to designate that window must meet Miami-Dade test requirementes for hurricane impact and cycling. Manufacturer must submit certified test reports to show compliance with this code.

 

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

FRAMES: The window frame shall have a minimum of 5 1/2" depth, .078" wall thickness and a minimum sill thickjness of .094" and shall be manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. Head, sill and jamb members shall be one (1) piece construction.

VENTILATORS: All vent members shall be of tubular design with a minimum wall thickness of .090" and shall be manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. All vent members shall have mitered joints, reinforced by a soild corner key and mechanically crimped to prevent corner rotation. All joints shall be weather proffed with an acrylic seam sealer.

 

OPERATING HARDWARE

All ventilators shall be provided with manufacturer's standard cam locking hardware to properly open, close and lock vent. Locking hardware shall be white bronze with a satin finish. Ventilators exceeding 48" in height shall be provided with two (2) locks. Each vent shall be mounted on heavy-duty stainless steel 4-bar hinges and shall be balanced when in an open position with sides properly adjusted. Hinges shall be mounted with stainless fasteners to the structural webs of the frame and vent.

Louver operators shall be gear-type rotary operators and shall control louvers from fully open (90 degrees) to a fully closed position.

 

WEATHERSTRIPPING

All ventilators shall be provided with two (2) rows of extruded leaf type vinyl, set into integrally extruded grooves of the ventilator members. Weatherstripping shall provide continuous perimeter contact to assure weather tightness.

Stainless steel weather-stripping shall be factory installed between clips and frame jamb. Head and sill vinyl weatherstripping shall be retained integral grooves.

 

LOUVERS

All louvers shall be of tubular design with a minimum thickness of .050" manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. Each louver blade shall be weatherstripped with extruded bulb vinyl. Louver blades shall be retained in clips formed from 5002-H34 aluminum of .050" thickness and mechanically fastened rom the interior side of the louver blade.

Finish to be selected by architect in standard available commercial finishes.

 

GLAZING

Standard glazing shall be 1/8", 3/16" or 1/4" glass with snap in extruded aluminum bead.

 

SCREENS

Where indicated in plans and specifications, removable screens shall be furnished. Screen frame shall recess into the window frame and corners shall be securely locked. Screen frame shall be screened with 18x16" fiberglass or aluminum mesh.

 

ERECTION

Windows to be installed per the manufacturers' recommendation. Particular attention shall be given to the following:

  1. Frames shall be set SQUARE, PLUMB AND LEVEL
  2. Eliminate any and all jamb BOWING or TWISTING
  3. Remove any headd or sill CROWNING. After installation is complete, adjust louvers for free and easy operation.
  4. Window must be shimmed.
