5500 Series Single/Double Hung Louvers Specifications

 

SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL PROVISIONS: All Double Hung and Single Hung windows with exterior extruded aluminum louvers as shown in architectural drawings shall meet or exceed the latest AAMA standards, including minimum requirements for air and water for DH-HC65 levels.

Architect to designate windows must meet the Dade County Hurricane Code for impact and cycling. Manufacturer must submit Dade County Product Approval number to show compliance with this code.

 

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

FRAMES: The window frame shall have a minimum of 5-1/2" in depth, .078" wall thickness and a minimum sill thickness of .098" and shall be manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. Head, sill and jamb members shall be one (1) piece construction.

SASH: All sash members shall have a minimum wall thickness of .062" and shall be manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy. All horizontal sash rails shall be tubular. Upper and lower lift rails shall have continuous lift and pull down grips. Both upper and lower sash shall be easily removed from the frame without the use of tools.

 

HARDWARE

SASH: Block and tackle balances, each fitted with suitable brackets to connect to sash. Balances shall allow free operation and hold sash stationary at any position.

Louvered operators shall be cast or forged type (roto style) and shall control louvers from fully open (90 degrees) to a fully closed position. Ring and pole type cam operators shall be furnished to transom windows.

 

WEATHERSTRIPPING

SASH: Wool pile with fin shall be factory installed around perimeter of each sash jamb where it contacts frame.

FRAME: Stainless steel weatherstripping shall be factory installed between clips and jambs. Head and sill vinyl weatherstripping retained in internal grooves

 

LOUVERS

All louvers shall be tubular extruded aluminum with a minimum thickness of .062 manufactured from 6063-T5 extruded aluminum alloy in a tubular section. Each louver blade is to be weatherstripped horizontally with a vinyl bulb. Finish to be selected by architect in standard available commercial finishes such as paint (ESP), Kynar (if required), clear or color anodized.

All louvers shall be retained in clips formed from 5002-H34 aluminum of .050 thickness. Extruded aluminum louvers to be secured by means of pop rivets or mechanical fasteners from the interior side of the louver blade.

 

GLAZING

Glass shall be 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" with interior snap-in extruded aluminum bead. Also available are 1/2" insulated and laminated glass in clear or tint colors.

 

SCREENS

Where indicated in plans and specifications, removable screens shall be furnished. Screen frame shall recess into the window frame and corners shall be securely locked. Screen frame shall be screened with 18x16 fiberglass or aluminum mesh.

 

ERECTION

Windows to be installed per the manufacturers' recommendation. Particular attention shall be given to the following:

  1. Frames shall be set SQUARE, PLUMB AND LEVEL
  2. Eliminate any and all jamb BOWING or TWISTING
  3. Remove any headd or sill CROWNING. After installation is complete, adjust louvers for free and easy operation.
  4. Window must be shimmed.
